About TDP

Third Dune Productions creates documentary-style short films and photography with a focus on authenticity, strong visuals, and meaningful storytelling. Many projects spotlight visual artists, local arts organizations, and the natural world that inspires their work—often exploring the connection between creative expression and nature.

In addition to this artistic focus, Third Dune also produces branded content for commercial clients, bringing the same thoughtful and visually driven approach to a wide range of projects.

Started and led by Conor King, a photographic artist with a background in the arts, Third Dune brings a uniquely artistic perspective to every project.

Whether working solo or collaborating with a trusted group of creatives, the approach remains consistent: low-crew, high-impact. This results in thoughtful, cinematic work that feels grounded, human, and visually rich.

Sustainability

Production and our environment

At Third Dune Productions, Colorado’s stunning environment is more than just a backdrop—it’s a responsibility. The goal is to create striking imagery while actively minimizing the environmental impact behind the scenes. Cameras capture the beauty of the natural world, but their production, use, and supporting technologies have an undeniable footprint.

That’s why Third Dune Productions has been a proud member of 1% for the Planet since 2019 and supports the Colorado Water Trust financially.

Commitment to sustainability includes purchasing carbon offsets from Gold Standard to address emissions generated by plane travel, the manufacturing of camera equipment, and the energy consumption of AI and cloud storage.

By taking these meaningful actions, Third Dune Productions shows respect for the environment that influences its creative vision, supporting the preservation of natural beauty for future storytelling

Biography

I started Third Dune in 2017 to pursue visually-driven work — through both motion and photography — in collaboration with people doing meaningful, creative work. My path here has taken a few turns — from darkrooms in Boulder to commercial and editorial work in New York, classrooms in Colorado, and artist studios in between — but visual storytelling has always been the constant.

Originally from Minnesota, I moved to Colorado over 25 years ago to study at CU Boulder, where I discovered a deep connection to photography and earned my BFA. That led to an MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and a position at Getty Images, where I worked closely with a global network of photographers and creatives.

Back in Denver, I spent ten plus years teaching at the University of Colorado, was a resident artist at RedLine, and helped to found Tank Studios, a shared workspace supporting working artists across disciplines.

Today, I run Third Dune as a nimble, one-person studio — with the ability to scale up through a network of trusted collaborators when needed. I approach each project with curiosity, clarity, and a collaborative mindset — always aiming to craft visually compelling work that resonates, reflects, and feels honest and intentional.

. . . or anywhere in between

Third Dune can take a project from start to finish—from our first conversation about your goals, through scripting, shooting, editing, and final delivery. But not every project needs the full treatment. Sometimes I come on board just to shoot, sometimes just to edit. I also make still photographs—documenting artwork, creating portraits, or details that help round out a story.

When a project calls for more hands or expanded creative input, I scale up by working with a tight circle of trusted collaborators—people I’ve worked with, respect, and can count on. Whether it’s just me with a camera or a small team on a multi-day shoot, the goal is the same: clear communication, thoughtful process, and visuals that feel honest and well-crafted.

TDP

est. 2017

The name Third Dune is inspired by both the creative process and personal meaning. Like a sand dune, the artistic journey is always shifting—recognizable, yet constantly evolving. For me, the number three and the initials "TD" hold special significance: they represent three individuals who encouraged me to pursue photography in the first place.

The name also nods to a turning point in my own story—visiting Colorado’s Great Sand Dunes, where I first began to seriously study photography. That landscape sparked something, and it ultimately played a role in the creation of Third Dune.
